Ellen Todd is a watercolor artist, painting still lifes, botanicals, and landscapes. Her work also includes vignettes – small scenes that tell a story. She is influenced by her interest in antiques, flowers and gardens; domestic and foreign travel; and inspiration from her daily life on Cape Cod, and prior residence in Middlesex County.
Her paintings have been exhibited with the Nashoba Valley Artists at the Lawrence Library in Pepperell, MA and in solo exhibition at the galleries at the First Parish Church of Groton and at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth, MA. An exhibition is being planned for summer of 2015 – check back for details.
Background & Education
Ellen’s exposure to art and early education began with excellent public school art teachers Martha & Alan Ferguson, in Stow, MA. Her mother was also an artist, with a gallery in Rockport, MA, and provided informal training throughout Ellen’s childhood. Ellen continued this education by taking drawing classes while majoring in foreign languages at Antioch College.
After a long hiatus, Ellen’s creativity resurfaced. She studied landscape design at the Landscape Institute of the Arnold Arboretum, where she developed her design, observation and botanical drawing skills. She has studied painting with Marjorie Glick at the Decordova Museum and has studied with other local artists. Ellen continues to learn and develop through cooperative self-study with the Nashoba Valley Artists Association.
She has also attended a watercolor workshop with Nancy Howell, of Scituate, MA, taken classes with Andrew Kusmin at the Falmouth Art Center and taken private oil painting lessons from Hilary Osborne, of Osborne & Rugh, in Falmouth, MA.
